Key Highlights from Core Teams
The Graph Protocol stands at the forefront of web3 innovation, and with eight core development teams, each bring unique expertise and energy to constantly evolve the protocol. This ensures that The Graph remains a foundational layer for indexing and querying blockchain data. This level of collaboration is rare in the blockchain space, making The Graph a key player in powering the decentralized future, with advancements that set the stage for exponential growth in data infrastructure, web3 dApps, and beyond.

What is The Graph and why is the next big thing in the technology industry
If you want to keep up with the latest updates within The Graph ecosystem, one of the best places is the Graph Forum, specifically the Core Team Updates section. The core development teams — Messari, StreamingFast, Geo, Pinax, GraphOps, Semiotic, Edge & Node, and The Guild — are constantly building and improving the network. These teams collaborate to push forward innovation, decentralization, and utility across web3.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the latest, most important updates from August and September 2024 updates posted on Forum.
Messari: Pioneering Solana Subgraphs
Messari continues to deliver new subgraphs, with 12 shipped in August, bringing their total to over 150. Notably, Messari has started developing The Graph’s first Solana subgraph — Orca — targeted to launch at the Solana Breakpoint event. This work highlights Messari’s effort in solving indexing speed challenges in collaboration with the Substreams team.
What’s Delivered:Orca Solana subgraph12 other subgraphs, including Node DAO, cbETH, Chainlink Staking, and more. What’s Next:Continuing development on Nozzle and fulfilling subgraph development goals.
StreamingFast: Pushing Substreams to the Next Level
StreamingFast has made significant advancements with Substreams, introducing new integrations such as Sei network. The team has also focused on improving Solana foundational modules and the performance of the Substreams engine, allowing up to 10x speed improvements in some cases.
What’s Delivered:Sei Network integrationSolana foundational modulesNew performance features like skip_empty_output.What’s Next:Improve onboarding experience for Substreams developers across chains.Increase growth of Substreams-powered subgraphs on The Graph Network.
Geo: Refining Knowledge Graph Standards
Geo continues to refine the Knowledge Graph Standard, transitioning to a property graph model. This refactor enhances how relations and facts are managed, allowing a more flexible and powerful data structure.
What’s Delivered:Refactor to support property graph models.Onboarding new developers for the next cohort. What’s Next:Preparing the spec for a wider release.
Pinax: Bringing EOS and WAX Substreams to The Graph
Pinax focused on migrating dfuse users to EOS and WAX Substreams-Powered Subgraphs, while continuing to build out foundational Substreams modules for a variety of blockchains. Their work includes launching EOS and WAX Transaction APIs and adding support for 13 new blockchains.
What’s Delivered:EOS and WAX Substreams-powered subgraphs.Support for 13 new blockchains, including Arbitrum, Solana, and Polygon zkevm. What’s Next:Continuing to build and onboard new chains and RPC services.Enhancing indexer performance with multi-shard optimization.
Semiotic: Improving Verifiability and AI Integration
Semiotic made key strides in verifying post-merge Ethereum data and advancing AI research. They’ve also focused on fixing bugs in TAP (Transaction and Payment) service, preparing for a stable 1.0.0 release.
What’s Delivered:Verification of Ethereum Consensus Layer blocks.TAP service candidates for 1.0.0 release. What’s Next:Explore AI applications within The Graph.Extend Ethereum data verification through Firehose.
GraphOps: Empowering Indexers and Developers
GraphOps continued its development on GraphSeer, improving the local development environment and launching new features like Launchpad Taskfiles. They’ve also been working on decentralized QoS Oracle V2 and enhancing IPFS Publishing pipelines.
What’s Delivered:GraphSeer enhancements, including autopagination for queries.Rollout of new Launchpad features and taskfiles. What’s Next:Finalizing indexer improvements and preparing new stable versions of critical services.
Edge & Node: Scaling the Network and Collaborating with Sony
Edge & Node shared that The Graph Network now supports over 9,000 published subgraphs, representing a 23% growth from last month. They’ve also collaborated with Sony to launch the Soneium L2, aimed at disrupting gaming, finance, and entertainment sectors through web3.
What’s Delivered:Over 9,000 subgraphs now available on the network.Integration with Soneium L2.What’s Next:Finalizing new subgraph integrations for multiple chains.Further development of GraphSeer and Explorer tools.
The Guild: GraphQL Innovations and Tooling Improvements
The Guild continues to make GraphQL tooling and documentation improvements. Key highlights include resolving build file issues and expanding network support for multiple chains. They’re also working on webhook integration with Studio and onboarding users to GraphQL Hive.
What’s Delivered:Resolved key issues in graph-tooling and expanded network support.Upgraded docs to Nextra V3.What’s Next:Further refining tooling and webhooks.Onboarding new users to GraphQL Hive.
