You type 0.10 into the order window. Familiar number. Familiar risk? Not necessarily. đź‘€
The same lot size can represent completely different exposure depending on what you trade:
💶 EURUSD — 1 lot = 100,000 EUR
🥇 XAUUSD — 1 lot = 100 oz
₿ BTCUSD — 1 lot = 1 BTC
📊 DE40–1 lot = 1 index unit
So copying the same lot size from forex to gold, crypto or an index does not mean copying the same risk.
🔍 The difference is hidden in three numbers traders often overlook: contract size, tick size and tick value.
And there are more traps. A tick is not always a pip. A tiny tick size does not necessarily mean tiny risk. And even a 0.00 tick size shown in MT5 does not mean a price move is worth nothing.
Our new guide breaks it all down with practical examples and shows how to read instrument specifications, calculate the value of a price move and size positions more intelligently. 📊
👉 Before you compare lot sizes, compare what those lots actually represent.
