Switzerland has approved its first spot Bitcoin ETF for retail investors, opening another regulated route into Bitcoin just as BlackRock’s flagship fund attracts $665 million in daily inflows.
The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) announced the approval late yesterday, marking a milestone for the country’s crypto investment market. The fund will invest directly in Bitcoin rather than relying on futures or derivatives, giving eligible retail investors access through a regulated investment structure.

The development comes as institutional demand for Bitcoin remains significant despite uncertainty across broader financial markets. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) recorded its largest single-day net inflow in a year, raising fresh questions about whether renewed investment demand could support BTC’s next move.

Switzerland Approves First Retail Bitcoin ETF
FINMA’s approval allows Switzerland’s first retail fund investing directly in Bitcoin to operate under the country’s investment fund framework.
The fund, identified by BIT Asset Management as the Bitcoin Fund ETF (ticker BBIT), is expected to begin trading on the SIX Swiss Exchange in November. The approval represents a significant development in a country that already offers crypto exchange-traded products but has historically distinguished those products from conventional investment funds.

Unlike existing exchange-traded products structured as debt securities, the newly approved fund falls under Swiss collective investment scheme rules. Its assets are held separately from those of the fund management company, providing a different legal structure for investors.
FINMA also granted an exemption from standard risk-diversification requirements. The regulator cited Bitcoin’s long trading history and comparatively high trading volume as reasons for the decision.
The approval reflects growing interest in cryptocurrency investments, particularly Bitcoin, according to FINMA. Other providers have also submitted or announced applications for similar products, suggesting competition in Switzerland’s regulated crypto investment market could increase.
However, the approval does not eliminate Bitcoin’s market risks. FINMA warned that the cryptocurrency remains highly volatile and that investors could lose a substantial portion of their invested capital.

BlackRock Bitcoin ETF Inflows Hit $665 Million
Switzerland’s regulatory milestone coincides with a notable surge in US institutional investment flows. BlackRock’s IBIT attracted $665.16 million in net inflows on October 19, its largest single-day total since October 7, 2025.
The inflows helped US spot Bitcoin ETFs record approximately $526.6 million in combined net inflows that day, even as withdrawals from competing products partially offset BlackRock’s gains.
The figures suggest that demand for regulated Bitcoin exposure remains resilient. However, one strong trading session does not necessarily signal a sustained return of institutional buying. Macroeconomic uncertainty remains a potential obstacle. Interest-rate expectations and broader risk appetite could influence whether ETF inflows translate into lasting upward pressure on Bitcoin’s price.
Can ETF Demand Support Bitcoin’s Price?
The combination of Switzerland’s approval and BlackRock’s latest inflows highlights two different drivers of Bitcoin adoption: expanding access for retail investors and continued demand from established financial institutions.
The Swiss fund could make Bitcoin exposure more accessible to investors who prefer traditional brokerage accounts and regulated investment products over directly purchasing and safeguarding cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, US ETF flows offer a daily indicator of investor demand.
For Bitcoin, the next key signal will be whether institutional inflows remain consistent and whether the new Swiss fund attracts meaningful investment after trading begins. The approval also creates a potential competitive opportunity for other asset managers seeking to introduce regulated cryptocurrency products in Europe.
Nevertheless, neither development guarantees an immediate Bitcoin rally. Sustained price gains would likely require continued buying interest alongside supportive macroeconomic conditions.
