You’re long EUR/USD.
You’re long GBP/USD.
Looks diversified? Not necessarily. 👀
Both positions may be driven by the same underlying force — the US dollar. If that driver moves against you, two seemingly separate trades can start losing together.
That’s where correlation matters.
🔗 Positive correlation — markets tend to move together
↔️ Negative correlation — they tend to move in opposite directions
🔄 Changing correlation — yesterday’s relationship may not work tomorrow
And here’s the trap: correlation is not a trading signal, a probability or a guaranteed hedge. A reading of +0.70 does NOT mean two assets move together 70% of the time.
The real question isn’t just “How many positions do I have?”
It’s “How many different risks do I actually have?” 🎯
Learn how correlation can reveal hidden exposure, false diversification and changing relationships between markets.
