For much of late 2024 and early 2025, many in the crypto world believed XRP<\/a> could overtake Ethereum in market capitalization. The belief grew after XRP\u2019s powerful rally late last year, which saw it outperform most major coins while Ethereum<\/a> struggled to hold key price levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the time, market analysts were confident the gap between the two would soon close. Now, one of the most vocal supporters of the flippening, a popular analyst known as Charting Guy, has reversed his position and says it\u2019s unlikely to happen anytime soon.<\/p>\n

Analyst Backtracks On XRP Flippening Ethereum Prediction<\/h2>\n

Charting Guy pointed to the period between November 2024 and January 2025, when XRP surged<\/a> nearly 600%, while ETH barely moved and even dropped to lows of $1,385 in April. During that time, XRP\u2019s price strength<\/a> and rapid market cap growth, increasing about seven times in just weeks, led many to believe it could become the top altcoin.<\/p>\n

However, in a post<\/a> this week, Charting Guy admitted, \u201cthat is no longer the case.\u201d He explained that he re-entered Ethereum in April, near its lows, and since then, ETH has shown \u201cimmense strength<\/a>.\u201d As of today, Ethereum is trading just 10% below its all-time high of $4,891, reaching $4,784 earlier in the day. Its current price of $4,736 marks a 239% increase from its April low.<\/p>\n

The surge pushed Ethereum\u2019s market cap<\/a> to $572 billion, compared to XRP\u2019s $193 billion. The gap between them, now more than $368 billion, has grown significantly since July 13, when it was under $200 billion. Charting Guy says Ethereum\u2019s strong performance has made a flippening far less realistic<\/a>, at least in the near term.<\/p>\n

Ethereum\u2019s Strength Leaves XRP Playing Catch-Up<\/h2>\n

In the past four weeks alone, ETH has jumped 52%, while XRP\u2019s growth has largely stalled. Even if XRP were to rise<\/a> 2.5 times from its current price of $3.22 to roughly $8, its market value would be around $477 billion, still far short of Ethereum\u2019s current level.<\/p>\n

Charting Guy also pointed out that for XRP to match Ethereum\u2019s current market cap, it would need to reach $9.30, and that\u2019s assuming ETH stops moving entirely while XRP rallies<\/a> 3x. In his view, that scenario is \u201crather unlikely.\u201d He warned against listening to \u201cmoon boys\u201d who push unrealistic XRP price targets while ignoring Ethereum\u2019s continued strength<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Instead, he advises investors to hold both assets, arguing that being too focused on one coin leaves traders exposed if the market moves in a different direction. He stressed that Ethereum\u2019s strong rally was overdue, as it had been playing catch-up<\/a> to Bitcoin for most of the season.<\/p>\n

What once seemed like a real possibility now appears distant as Ethereum gains momentum<\/a>. While XRP still has room to grow, it\u2019s clear that Ethereum is not standing still, making the race between them more one-sided for now.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
