I\u2019ve always wanted to know how the stock market worked and all of that good\u00a0stuff.<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t until several years ago when I had that interest to learn more about\u00a0it.<\/p>\n
Like most people, I wanted to get in there to make more money, while providing me with a stable source of\u00a0income.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s possible to make great money by investing in the stock\u00a0market.<\/p>\n
But, it\u2019s never\u00a0easy.<\/p>\n
If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it, and we\u2019d all be rich and prosperous.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s what I want to discuss in this\u00a0post.<\/p>\n
I decided to get into the stock market back in 2019 (now 6 years\u00a0ago).<\/p>\n
I was excited to get some exposure to it, and see what type of returns I would get\u00a0overall.<\/p>\n
Once I invested some money in there and saw how it worked, I was intrigued.<\/p>\n
I was in the mindset<\/a> of wanting the stocks to keep going up, which is what most investors aim for these\u00a0days.<\/p>\n The problem was that it\u2019s never the\u00a0case.<\/p>\n The market has its ebbs and\u00a0flows-<\/p>\n It goes up, it comes down, and it can go sideways at\u00a0times.<\/p>\n That\u2019s the true nature of the market, especially today.<\/p>\n After putting in some money into individual stocks and index funds, I was doing\u00a0well.<\/p>\n But after some time, I started to see my performance go down from\u00a0there.<\/p>\n There was a part of me thinking that maybe it was not worth it after\u00a0all.<\/p>\n Yes, I started to doubt my ability to keep\u00a0going.<\/p>\n After seeing the value of my money go down, I decided to throw in the towel and no longer participate.<\/p>\n Yes, I sold my stocks for some losses and moved on from\u00a0there.<\/p>\n Not the best move to make, and it\u2019s one I regret right\u00a0now.<\/p>\n The problem with me was not being patient and sticking it out a little\u00a0longer.<\/p>\n In the long run, those investments could have made decent\u00a0returns.<\/p>\n Reflecting back on that time I had, I knew I could have done a better\u00a0job.<\/p>\n What I didn\u2019t do enough was the research component, and asking myself a fundamental question such as the following:<\/p>\n Am I comfortable owning a particular stock at the price it\u2019s at\u00a0today?<\/em><\/p>\n Not asking myself that question was a mistake, and one I\u2019ve learned over the\u00a0years.<\/p>\n Some other things to keep in mind include the following:<\/p>\n Start slow and put in small amounts. That\u2019s ideal for anyone beginning out in investing.<\/strong>Continue making regular contributions (monthly or\u00a0weekly).<\/strong><\/p>\n At the time, I didn\u2019t do any of\u00a0that.<\/p>\n If I did, I may have been better off if I continued down that route.
