XRP fans, take note<\/span>, <\/span>the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) just dropped big news.<\/span> Starting May 19, traders could be able to dive into XRP futures contracts, assuming the final regulatory green light comes through. <\/span>This<\/span> would be a <\/span>major<\/span> first for XRP on one of the biggest traditional finance platforms in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

These contracts will be cash-settled, meaning you <\/span>won\u2019t<\/span> actually<\/span> need to hold any XRP to trade them. Instead, <\/span>you\u2019re<\/span> betting on price movements and settling in good old dollars. Two versions <\/span>are expected<\/span>: a<\/span> \u201c<\/span>micro<\/span>\u201d <\/span>contract sized at 2,500 <\/span>XRP,<\/span> and a larger one at 50,000 XRP. Prices will track <\/span>CME\u2019s<\/span> own<\/span> XRP-Dollar Reference Rate, published daily at 4 p.m. London time.<\/span><\/p>\n

CME\u2019s<\/span> Global Head of Crypto Products, Giovanni Vicioso, explained that <\/span>they\u2019re<\/span> launching the product to meet growing demand. In his words, XRP and its tech are gaining steam among <\/span>both<\/span> institutions and retail users, and futures give people a tool to trade or hedge more efficiently.<\/span><\/p>\n

XRP Market Performance Before XRP Futures Plans<\/span><\/h2>\n

So why now? For starters, XRP has had a relatively solid 2025 compared to the rest of the market. <\/span>It\u2019s<\/span> up over 5% this year, while Bitcoin and Ethereum have been wobbling. <\/span>That\u2019s<\/span> helped XRP stand out at a time when most coins are just trying to stay afloat.<\/span><\/p>\n
