Tether\u2019s US-only stablecoin may become a reality sooner rather than later.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite having $144 billion of tokens in circulation globally, Tether,\u00a0the issuer of the world\u2019s largest stablecoin (USDT), currently does not accept customers in the US. However, Tether\u2019s US-exclusive stablecoin comes as a response to President Donald Trump\u2019s vocally favourable stance towards cryptocurrency regulation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are the boots on the ground,\u201d Tether Chief Executive Paolo Ardoino told MarketWatch recently, \u201cbuilding the biggest distribution network, physical and digital, for the US dollar ever in the history of humanity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a 7th April 2025 FT report,<\/a> Ardoino said that if the new rules make US domestic stablecoins competitive, there could be an \u201cinterest from Tether to create a domestic stablecoin in the US, calling it \u201cbasically a settlement currency.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Tether\u2019s Discussions With US Administration Progresses<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Talking about the importance of supporting dollar stablecoins, Ardoino said, \u201cIt\u2019s already hard out there, and we need some backup from the US.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He revealed that the company is engaged in discussions about US regulations on stablecoins, which the administration views as \u201can important instrument for the US.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Based on how these discussions pan out,\u00a0Tether could create a token specifically designed for the US market that would function \u201cbasically as a settlement currency.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The El Salvador-based company has gained confidence in the changing regulatory climate under Trump, who has pledged to make the US \u201cthe crypto capital of the planet\u201d and called for new stablecoin rules to be ready by August 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tether is actively pursuing its first comprehensive audit with the big four accounting firms\u2014KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, and EY.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the President of the US says this is a top priority for the US, Big Four auditing firms will have to listen, so we are very happy with that,\u201d said Tether CEO.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0a Reuters report<\/a>\u00a0dated 24 March 2025, Ardoino said transparency and the audit is the company\u2019s top priority. \u201cNow we are living in a landscape where it\u2019s actually feasible,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
