American President Donald Trump made numerous pro-crypto promises during his campaign last year. One of those included establishing a strategic Bitcoin reserve.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this month, he kept his word and signed<\/a> an executive order to create such an initiative. He also ordered the formation of a Digital Asset Stockpile.<\/span><\/p>\n

The strategic Bitcoin reserve is designed to hold BTC as a reserve asset and will <\/span>be comprised<\/span> of holdings acquired through criminal or civil asset forfeiture proceedings. The US Digital Asset Stockpile will serve the same purpose and consist of altcoins obtained through similar seizure efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reactions From the Community<\/span><\/h2>\n

The development became the talk of the town, and many industry leaders gave their two cents. One of them, Arthur Beitman, co-founder of the blockchain platform Tezos, recently told CryptoPotato<\/em> that the strategic reserve is \u201can interesting concept\u201d but suggested that only time will tell whether it will succeed.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsually strategic reserves are meant to match potential liabilities, <\/span>e.g.<\/span> oil. Foreign reserves play the dual role of matching potential liabilities from international trade and helping stabilize the domestic currency. Alex Shevchenko \u2013 CEO and co-founder of Aurora \u2013 said establishing a BTC reserve is a \u201cturning <\/span>point,<\/span>\u201d marking the recognition of the primary cryptocurrency as \u201ca strategic financial instrument, not just by some businesses but by governments themselves.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cUS is positioning itself ahead of the curve. Other nations will have no choice but to respond. I believe <\/span>we\u2019re going to<\/span> see many countries follow US innovation at this point. <\/span>This<\/span> isn\u2019t just about the US leading in crypto<\/span>, it\u2019s<\/span> about Bitcoin becoming a core asset in geopolitical finance,\u201d the exec stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other well-known people who weighed in on the initiative include Anthony Scaramucci and Michael Saylor. The former White House official <\/span>said<\/span><\/a> he believes in the BTC reserve \u201cnot because it will help Bitcoin, but because it will help the United States.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

It is important to note that Scaramucci was part of the US government during Trump\u2019s first presidency. He was once a firm proponent of the <\/span>Republican<\/span>, but in 2019, he withdrew that support, citing concerns over the president\u2019s behavior and rhetoric.<\/span><\/p>\n

For his part, Strategy\u2019s Executive Chairman <\/span>described<\/span><\/a> the creation of a strategic BTC reserve in America as a historical moment and \u201ca turning point in the financial and geopolitical landscape of the 21st century.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Not long ago, the economist known for his affection toward gold <\/span>claimed<\/span><\/a> that political and financial interests drove the decision.<\/span><\/p>\n
