The legal tussle between Ripple and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been ongoing for over four years. <\/span>However, its eventual resolution in the short term seems more likely <\/span>after some recent developments<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According<\/span><\/a> to John Reed Stark (former director of the SEC Internet Enforcement Office), the watchdog might soon pause all crypto-related appeals. He based his prediction on certain factors, including the mutual agreement between the Commission and Binance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the two parties <\/span>requested<\/span><\/a> the magistrates to pause their lawsuit for 60 days. After that, both plan to submit a joint status report to assess whether an <\/span>extension of the<\/span> stay is warranted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI expect we\u2019ll see other non-fraud cases (<\/span>i.e.<\/span> Ripple, Coinbase, Kraken, and others) follow suit in this manner,\u201d Eleanor Terrett (a journalist at Fox Business) <\/span>weighed in<\/span><\/a> at the time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stark claimed that some of the changes at the SEC\u2019s management team also suggest that the appeal against Ripple could be paused or fully withdrawn. <\/span>Recall that the<\/span> regulator recently transferred<\/a> one of its top crypto litigators, Jorge Tenreiro, to its computer systems department.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The law expert joined the agency <\/span>more than<\/span> a decade ago, gradually climbing the ladder to become Chief Litigation Counsel in 2024. Tenreiro\u00a0signed the SEC\u2019s notice of appeal in its case against Ripple.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYet, this SEC trial lawyer, who championed the victories of Coinbase and Binance, is now glaringly absent from both the Coinbase and Binance pleadings, ordered to pack his pencils and legal pads and transfer to the SEC\u2019s IT department,\u201d Stark stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

When to Expect a Settlement?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Stark is not the only person speculating on the future developments of the Ripple v. SEC case. Last week, the popular American lawyer Jeremy Hogan <\/span>suggested<\/span><\/a> that the <\/span>final<\/span> outcome of the lawsuit is more likely to come before the potential approval of a spot XRP ETF in the US.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNot because it has to happen in that order, but because the ETFs will just take longer to dot the i\u2019s and cross the t\u2019s,\u201d he opined.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some <\/span>of the<\/span> companies that have revealed their plans to introduce such an investment vehicle include <\/span>Grayscale<\/span><\/a>, WisdomTree, Bitwise, 21Shares, and more. <\/span>According<\/span><\/a> to Polymarket, the odds of approval from the SEC before the end of 2025 are 78%.<\/span><\/p>\n
