Ripple crypto (XRP) has been on a tear\u00a0lately:<\/p>\n
Source: Coinmarketcap<\/em><\/p>\n Since November, XRP price surged\u00a0350%.<\/p>\n The recent jump vaulted Ripple back into the third spot of the world\u2019s largest cryptocurrencies, behind Ethereum<\/a> and\u00a0bitcoin<\/a>.<\/p>\n This has a lot of folks excited about investing in\u00a0Ripple.<\/p>\n I would caution you against it. It\u2019s one of the shadiest big cryptos out\u00a0there.<\/p>\n Here are 3 reasons\u00a0why\u2026<\/p>\n Ripple was supposed to be similar to the SWIFT system for international money and security transfers, letting you transfer money in any form\u200a\u2014\u200aseamlessly.<\/p>\n Sounds like the perfect use for crypto,\u00a0right?<\/p>\n Despite all this hype, Ripple has never announced a meaningful integration in 10\u00a0years.<\/p>\n Ripple claims to work with big financial institutions like Bank of America (BAC), American Express (AXP) and Santander Bank.<\/p>\n But how much business is it actually making from this partnerships? What are Ripple\u2019s revenues. There are no public records at\u00a0all.<\/p>\n The point about crypto is transparency. I can immediately see how much money Ethereum<\/a> or Solana<\/a> are making, or say a public company like\u00a0Nvidia<\/a>.<\/p>\n There\u2019s no such data about\u00a0Ripple.<\/p>\n Why would I invest into a company that doesn\u2019t share how much money it\u2019s making. What\u2019s it\u00a0hiding?<\/p>\n Don\u2019t forget, FTX was hyped as a legitimate business too before it all fell\u00a0apart.<\/p>\n XRP has terrible tokenomics.<\/p>\n Tokenomics is one of the most\u200a\u2014\u200aif not the<\/em> most\u200a\u2014\u200aimportant drivers of crypto prices. Tokenomics set the rules for how a crypto token operates. Like, for example, how much tokens will enter circulation and at what time, aka its inflation.<\/p>\n For example, some 94% of all bitcoin has already been mined. And the remaining 6% will come on the market at a snails pace between today and cca 2140. It\u2019s inflation is basically zero.<\/p>\n Likewise, most of Solana<\/a> and Ethereum<\/a> tokens are already in circulation.<\/p>\n On the flip side, only 55% of XRP tokens have been released. The rest are held by Ripple\u00a0Labs.<\/p>\n Right now, inflation rate for XRP is about 6%. That\u2019s already quite high. And you have zero guarantee Ripple Labs won\u2019t unload the remaining 45% of coins at an even faster rate in the\u00a0future.<\/p>\n As you may know, President Trump has repeatedly said he plans to create a bitcoin strategic reserve.<\/p>\n Lately, rumors have been circulating that Ripple will also join the\u00a0list.<\/p>\n The problem is that the source of those rumors is no other than Ripple\u2019s CEO Brad Garlinghouse.<\/p>\n In a January 1 LinkedIn interview with Devin Ryan, Garlinghouse said it would make sense for Trump to add XRP to the bitcoin strategic reserve.<\/p>\n That day, XRP jumped\u00a012%.<\/p>\n No one from the government actually confirmed that XRP is being considered as a reserve asset. It\u2019s fake\u00a0news.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t forget that Garlinghouse has been involved in a pump-and-dump controversy in the past. From 2017 to 2020, he made around $160 million selling his XRP stake while at the same time talking about the huge potential of\u00a0Ripple.<\/p>\n Bottom line: With so many quality cryptos out there, why would you invest in a shady business like Ripple.
