
{"id":237848,"date":"2026-10-09T20:02:39","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T20:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mycryptomania.com\/?p=237848"},"modified":"2026-10-09T20:02:39","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T20:02:39","slug":"heres-how-not-to-screw-up-your-bitcoin-privacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mycryptomania.com\/?p=237848","title":{"rendered":"Here\u2019s How Not To Screw up Your Bitcoin Privacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/\">Bitcoin Magazine<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/seth-for-privacy-bitcoin-tips\">Here\u2019s How Not To Screw up Your Bitcoin Privacy<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just one transaction can compromise years of discreet Bitcoin activity, Cake Wallet\u2019s chief operating officer has warned.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on the Bitcoin Rails podcast this week, activist Seth for Privacy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=A7Di925wFEU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">talked<\/a> about different ways of protecting one\u2019s privacy when using Bitcoin and said that focusing on privacy was a must for the West.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bitcoin privacy is a hot topic again ever since the developers of private coin mixer <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/culture\/samourai-letter-7-notes-from-the-inside\">Samourai Wallet<\/a> went on trial last year and were subsequently imprisoned.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But just this week, the U.S. Department of Treasury <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/treasury-drops-crypto-surveillance\">scrapped<\/a> two long-stalled crypto surveillance proposals, handing a major win to privacy advocates and the digital asset industry.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you ever spend your no-KYC coins with one of your KYC coins \u2014 which if you just let the wallet do its thing, it could do because it doesn\u2019t know the difference \u2014 you immediately connect all of the non-KYC Bitcoin that you spend in that with your identity,\u201d Seth said, referring to UTXO management, also called \u201ccoin control\u201d by some wallets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bitcoin wallets don\u2019t hold a single balance but a collection of separate unspent transaction outputs \u2014 UTXOs \u2014 each one a discrete \u201ccoin\u201d from a specific past transaction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you send a payment larger than any one UTXO, the wallet picks several and combines them as inputs to the same transaction \u2014 an easy mistake to make, Seth highlighted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seth added that unlike in the global South, where people have experienced more oppressive states, citizens in the West will need to \u201cfeel pain\u201d in order to realize how important privacy is.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, he added that attitudes were changing and people were getting more serious about protecting their privacy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt has been shifting, in the last five or six years a lot of people \u2014 even in the West \u2014 are starting to think [privacy] really matters, we really need to think about this seriously now,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/cake-wallet-launches-bitcoin-lightning-network-support-with-full-self-custody-and-privacy-defaults\">Cake Wallet<\/a> is a privacy-oriented, self-custody, open-source wallet.
