The company says the exercise was designed to demonstrate that its Bitcoin treasury can provide liquidity when required, while leaving it with a net increase of 1,000 BTC.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbtc.com\/all\/bringin-opens-euro-business-accounts-built-around-self-custody-bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin treasury companies<\/a> are usually judged by how much BTC they buy.<\/p>\n<p>Metaplanet has just demonstrated something different: how quickly a very large <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbtc.com\/news\/bitcoin\/genius-group-restarts-bitcoin-buying-with-10-btc-purchase\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> position can be converted into liquidity and then rebuilt.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese-listed company disclosed that during the third quarter it sold 10,000 BTC for approximately \u00a5124.7 billion, or around $790 million.<\/p>\n<p>It subsequently purchased 11,000 BTC for roughly \u00a5149.9 billion, equivalent to around $950 million.<\/p>\n<p>The result was unusual.<\/p>\n<p>Metaplanet temporarily moved a huge quantity of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbtc.com\/business\/hyperscale-data-says-bitcoin-and-cash-reserves-reach-56-4m\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> out of its treasury, proved that it could turn those holdings into cash at scale, then finished the exercise with 1,000 more BTC than it had before the transactions.<\/p>\n<p>The company ended the quarter holding 44,000 BTC.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbtc.com\/news\/vaneck-flags-heavy-executive-dilution-at-bitcoin-treasury-firm-metaplanet\/\">Metaplanet<\/a> described the operation as a demonstration of liquidity.<\/p>\n<p>That matters because the corporate Bitcoin model inevitably creates questions about what happens when a company needs cash.<\/p>\n<p>Holding billions of dollars of BTC can make a balance sheet look exceptionally liquid in theory, but creditors and rating agencies also care about whether those assets can be mobilized in practice without disrupting the company\u2019s broader capital structure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbtc.com\/news\/capital-b-raises-25-3m-and-buys-376-bitcoin-for-treasury\/\">Metaplanet<\/a> said proceeds from the 10,000 BTC sale exceeded the outstanding principal of its bonds, borrowings and other interest-bearing liabilities.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, the company used the transaction to show that its Bitcoin position could cover its debt obligations if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>The disclosure arrived alongside a broader change in capital allocation policy.<\/p>\n<p>Metaplanet is preparing to put roughly 10% to 15% of its assets into strategic investments outside Bitcoin, including income-generating opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>That does not mean the company is abandoning its Bitcoin treasury strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Quite the opposite.<\/p>\n<p>Selling 10,000 BTC and ending up with 11,000 BTC back on the books suggests the company wanted to prove flexibility without reducing its overall exposure.<\/p>\n<p>The exercise also illustrates how the corporate Bitcoin model is maturing.<\/p>\n<p>Accumulation remains the headline metric, but companies holding tens of thousands of BTC eventually need policies covering liquidity, leverage, income generation and risk management.<\/p>\n<p>Metaplanet has now shown investors what one version of that can look like.<\/p>\n<p>Its treasury is not simply a vault designed to accumulate Bitcoin indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>The company wants it to function as active financial infrastructure.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TL;DR: Metaplanet disclosed that it sold 10,000 BTC during the third quarter for roughly $790 million before buying 11,000 BTC for around $950 million.
