{"id":234233,"date":"2026-09-30T20:14:02","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T20:14:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mycryptomania.com\/?p=234233"},"modified":"2026-09-30T20:14:02","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T20:14:02","slug":"uk-brings-crypto-under-full-fca-oversight-for-the-first-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mycryptomania.com\/?p=234233","title":{"rendered":"UK Brings Crypto Under Full FCA Oversight for the First Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/\">Bitcoin Magazine<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/uk-brings-crypto-under-fca-oversight\">UK Brings Crypto Under Full FCA Oversight for the First Time<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UK\u2019s Financial Conduct Authority has opened applications for crypto firms to become authorized, bringing the sector under full regulation for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a Wednesday announcement, the watchdog <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fca.org.uk\/news\/press-releases\/fca-opens-gateway-regulated-crypto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> companies can apply so that the crypto industry has \u201cclarity and legitimacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UK is in the process of drafting a <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/uk-formally-recognizes-crypto-as-property\">sweeping new crypto<\/a> bill. The FCA finalized its regulatory framework for cryptoassets in June, and the regime is due to take effect in October 2027.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe UK\u2019s new crypto regime will give consumers greater protections and firms a clear framework to operate in. Firms can now apply for authorisation and start preparing for regulation,\u201d Dominic Cashman, director of authorisation at the FCA, said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement added that firms will have to demonstrate that they meet requirements covering consumer protection, customer-asset safeguarding, market integrity and financial resilience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Britain is pushing ahead with digital asset legislation since last year recognizing bitcoin and other digital assets as property.
