SEC Commissioner Hester \u2018Crypto Mom\u2019 Peirce Optimistic About Clarity Act\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

The Security and Exchange Commission\u2019s outgoing commissioner, Hester Peirce, has expressed optimism that the long-awaited Clarity Act will pass.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking<\/a> on CoinDesk\u2019s The Policy Protocol show, the regulator said that passing the law would help the SEC in drafting regulation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lawmakers are pushing to get a vote on the crypto market structure bill \u2014 or Clarity Act \u2014 before the Senate goes to recess. Some Republicans have bemoaned<\/a> that Democratic members of the senate are deliberately dragging their feet with the bill.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m still optimistic that the bill will get finished, and it will give I think the industry and investors and regulators an easier path forward because there\u2019ll be very clear lines about who has authority over the crypto spot market, for example,\u201d Commissioner Peirce said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the legislation passes, we\u2019ve got lots of rulemaking to do,\u201d Peirce continued. \u201cBut even if it doesn\u2019t pass, we can do a lot: We can develop a framework for people who are trying to do fundraising using crypto assets, as an example.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Clarity Act has been in a deadlock for much of 2026, partially because the banking lobby raised concerns over crypto companies allowing clients to earn stablecoin yield.\u00a0<\/p>\n

An updated bill of the Clarity Act was introduced in July addressing concerns around ethics; it now bans government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But a group of Democrats have said<\/a> the bill needs work.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If passed, the Clarity Act would create a regulatory framework for the U.S. cryptocurrency market.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Peirce earned the nickname \u201ccrypto mom\u201d for her friendly approach to regulating the space despite the SEC\u2019s previous actions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Under ex-Chair Gary Gensler, the top regulator was openly hostile towards the digital asset space and hit crypto companies with a number of lawsuits.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since President Donald Trump took office in 2025, the SEC \u2014 and other regulators \u2014 have taken a far more friendly approach to crypto legislation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The SEC in 2025 announced a crypto task force specifically aimed at watchdogging the space.<\/p>\n
