But if we look beyond headlines and ask where Ripple has built its deepest relationship with the traditional financial system, Japan 🇯🇵 may be the more interesting answer.

There is no public country-by-country breakdown that proves Japan is Ripple’s largest market by revenue or transaction volume — still, few markets combine such a long partnership history, local financial backing, regulatory progress and real payment use cases.

A Partnership Built Over a Decade

Ripple’s position in Japan did not begin with the latest $XRP rally.

In 2016, Ripple and SBI Holdings created SBI Ripple Asia to develop blockchain-based payment infrastructure in Japan and other Asian markets. Since then, SBI has become much more than a local partner: it is also a Ripple shareholder and one of the company’s most active supporters in the financial sector.

Through this relationship, Ripple technology has been connected with banks, payment providers, crypto platforms and international remittance services.

One of the clearest examples is SBI Remit, which has used Ripple’s infrastructure for transfers from Japan. XRP was later introduced as a bridge asset for remittance corridors involving the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia.

This is important because it moves XRP beyond the usual discussion about price. In Japan, it has already been tested as part of an actual payment process.

Why XRP Has a Special Position in Japan

XRP has maintained unusually strong visibility among Japanese investors, partly because SBI has promoted Ripple-related products across its banking, securities and crypto businesses.

Japan also offers something many crypto markets still lack: a relatively mature regulatory structure. Its rules are strict, but they give licensed financial companies a clearer framework for developing digital-asset products.

Together, these factors create a strong foundation:

a major local financial partner;years of cooperation with payment providers;real cross-border remittance corridors;active retail interest in XRP;growing adoption of tokenized assets and blockchain infrastructure.XRPJPY 1W chart; TradingView

The chart does not prove that Japan alone determines XRP’s global performance. It does, however, help show why developments in the Japanese market regularly receive so much attention from the XRP community.

Ripple Is More Than XRP

It is also worth separating Ripple the company from XRP the asset.

Ripple now provides infrastructure for cross-border payments, digital-asset custody, stablecoins, institutional liquidity and tokenization. Depending on the product and customer, its systems may use XRP, fiat currencies or stablecoins.

This means that a new Ripple partnership does not automatically equal direct XRP adoption. However, Japan remains unusual because both sides of the ecosystem have developed there: Ripple’s enterprise infrastructure and XRP-based payment use cases.

What About Other Markets?

XRP Availability By Country in 2026

Japan is not Ripple’s only important region.

The U.S. remains critical for regulation, institutional products and corporate growth. Singapore serves as a major base for the Asia-Pacific region, while Europe and the Middle East are becoming increasingly important for licensed payment and custody services.

Japan’s advantage is different. It is not necessarily the largest market in every category, but it may be the place where Ripple’s model has been integrated most deeply into an established financial ecosystem.

So, is Japan Ripple’s strongest market?

That depends on how “strongest” is measured. But if the question is where Ripple’s vision has progressed furthest from a crypto idea toward working financial infrastructure, Japan has one of the strongest cases.

Which Country Is Ripple’s Strongest Market? was originally published in Coinmonks on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Ask someone where Ripple is strongest, and the first answer will probably be the United States.
