Anthropic\u2019s launch of Claude Managed Agents<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>is easy to misread as just another developer tool\u00a0drop.<\/strong><\/p>\n At first glance it looks like a straightforward win<\/strong><\/a> for builders: Hosted agents, secure sandboxing, long-running sessions, scoped permissions, tool authentication, execution tracing, and a managed runtime <\/strong>priced at standard token costs plus $0.08 per active session-hour. All of it designed to let teams ship production agents <\/strong>far faster than\u00a0before.<\/p>\n But the real significance<\/strong> is\u00a0bigger.<\/p>\n Anthropic didn\u2019t just <\/em>ship a new agent\u00a0product<\/strong>:<\/p>\n It compressed an entire layer of AI infrastructure<\/strong> into a platform\u00a0feature.<\/p>\n That\u2019s a pretty big\u00a0deal.<\/strong><\/p>\n Until now, a huge slice of the agent startup ecosystem<\/strong> existed because production-grade agents<\/strong> were genuinely painful to build. Teams had to wire together loops, sandboxes, session state, credential management, recovery logic, logging, and permissions before they could even ship something users cared\u00a0about.<\/strong><\/p>\n Anthropic\u2019s own framing is refreshingly blunt:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWhat used to take months of infrastructure work<\/strong> can now be handled in\u00a0days<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n That\u2019s a seismic\u00a0shift.<\/strong><\/p>\n The first casualty is\u00a0obvious.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n If a startup\u2019s main value proposition<\/strong> is \u201cwe make Claude easier to run in a sandbox,\u201d Anthropic just stepped directly into that lane<\/strong>. If it sells session-state management, Anthropic now handles it server-side<\/strong>. If it offers safe tool execution, the platform now provides scoped permissions,<\/strong> sandboxed code execution, authentication, and full tracing out of the\u00a0box.<\/strong><\/p>\n The official documentation<\/strong><\/a> makes the difference crystal clear: The old Agent SDK ran inside an apps own process<\/strong>; Managed Agents runs in Anthropic\u2019s hosted infrastructure<\/strong> via a clean REST API.
