More people are looking into Bitcoin. More people are using it. Now it\u2019s a topic in the election in the US,\u201d said Cotar, while talking at the Plan B Conference in Lugano<\/em> on 26 October 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow they\u2019re discussing it in the German parliament. They\u2019re discussing it in Switzerland.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Is ECB Trying To Divide People On Bitcoin?\u00a0<\/h2>\n

According to Cotar, once the ECB realised that Bitcoin is not going anywhere anymore, it tried to divide people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cECB is triggering the poor who didn\u2019t buy Bitcoin, saying, well, that\u2019s not good. So we have wealth spread unevenly again in Germany, or in our countries. And they are trying to divide the people now. They are trying to hinder people to look into Bitcoin, they are trying to stir up unrest against those who bought Bitcoin early. I mean, how ridiculous! They don\u2019t talk about gold that way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Parliament Members, Politicians Not Well Informed On Bitcoin<\/h2>\n

Cotar, a member of the German parliament for over seven years now has been in politics for over 11 years now. For the past two years now, she has been pushing the topic of Bitcoin forward in Parliament.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTalking to my colleagues, I realized they have no idea what Bitcoin really is They thought it is something terrorists use It\u2019s killing the planet. How can we regulate it? Can we ban it? These are the discussions that are going on in the German Bundestag (lower house).\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She made a speech against CBDCs or the digital Euro in the parliament, which got a lot of attention. She is working towards inviting experts to the parliament to explain what Bitcoin is really about.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Reporting progress, Joana said, \u201cPolitics is a marathon. It\u2019s not a sprint. So it will take a lot of time for Germany. But we have members of all parties represented in the German Bundestag listening to us, including members from the Ministry of Finance and Economy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe the next time they\u2019re talking about Bitcoin, they\u2019re not talking about how we can ban it, but how we can use it to the advantage of the people,\u201d she insisted.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBeing in politics for such a long time, I realized that politicians and parties are rarely the solution for any problems,\u201d Cotar added. \u201cMost of the time, they\u2019re part of the problem or they are the problem. So we need to step up and give the power back to the people. And Bitcoin is a tool of freedom.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI see our freedom rights declining in all Western countries\u201d Says Member Of German Parliament\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Talking about financial freedom, Cotar said, \u201cI think during COVID times, a lot of people woke up and realized what governments are capable of. That they are capable of taking your basic rights away, your freedom rights away.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI see our freedom rights declining in all Western countries. It doesn\u2019t depend on who I\u2019m talking to. It\u2019s people from the US or from France or the UK or Germany,\u201d she added. \u201cWe\u2019re all seeing our freedom rights taken away from us. <\/span>But I think <\/span>Bitcoin is a way to gain your sovereignty back and to fight against the government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Can Bitcoin Be Integrated Into Swiss Constitution?<\/h2>\n

Samuel Kullmann, member of Parliament, Canton Berne Switzerland, talkies about his experience with fiat money. He said, \u201cI was born in Leeds, but I grew up in Mongolia. In 1991, as a child, I experienced the hyperinflation Mongolia had after the fall of communism and the switch to a market economy. So that\u2019s sort of also my first experience with the fiat system.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2017, Kullmann was elected to the Swiss parliament of Canton Bern. \u201cSince 2021, I\u2019ve been very vocal about being pro-Bitcoin as a politician. I started the parliamentary group Bitcoin. In March 2024, filed for political bills for a Bitcoin strategy in Canton, which will be debated in December of this year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to do a common relationship in Switzerland through a direct democracy to actually bring Bitcoin into the Swiss constitution,\u201d stated Kullman. \u201cAnd why I believe it\u2019s necessary to practically engage in politics is because I believe Bitcoin adoption is probably one of the most important geopolitical questions of the century.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

To conclude, what Bitcoin in politics means is that we understand that Bitcoin is a bottom-up strategy. It\u2019s decentralization. So it doesn\u2019t really need politics in a sense. But what Bitcoin understands is that in order for the goal of people to become more self-sovereign, to be financially included in the system, we need to reach our end goal of separation of money and the state.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
