Wall Street banking giant Morgan Stanley has filed for spot Bitcoin and Solana ETFs with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on 6 January 2026. Institutional crypto adoption is clearly taking another turn, as Morgan Stanley Investment Management \u2013 which oversees $1.8 trillion in assets under management (AUM) \u2013 has submitted Form S-1 applications for two distinct crypto products: the Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust and the Morgan Stanley Solana Trust.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And what happens if these filings are approved? To put it simply, these funds would provide investors with direct exposure to crypto prices through a familiar investment vehicle.<\/span><\/p>\n

This request mirrors the successful format established by 11 spot BTC ETFs approved by the SEC before. Although the Solana offering is clearly a more innovative approach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Notably, the bank has filed these applications after the initial wave of spot Bitcoin ETFs hit the market \u2013 which has matured since its launch in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

Morgan Stanley also advised clients to allocate 2-4% of their investment portfolios to crypto. With a strong spotlight on Bitcoin as a \u201cscarce asset, akin to digital gold,\u201d Morgan Stanley\u2019s suggestion is a pivot in Wall Street\u2019s stance toward digital assets.<\/p>\n

Wall Street Pivots: Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, CitiGroup In Focus<\/h2>\n

Just last month, Goldman Sachs announced a $2 billion acquisition of Innovator Capital Management. What does this move mean? It will essentially help the Wall Street giant expand its presence in the crypto ETF market. In a December 2025 <\/span>announcement<\/span><\/a>, Goldman Sachs said that the acquisition will add $28 billion in AUM to Goldman Sachs Asset Management\u2019s broad range of custom portfolio solutions and active ETF capabilities. The deal will bring 159 ETFs into Goldman Sachs\u2019 AUM.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Citigroup has also announced plans to launch digital asset custody services in 2026.<\/p>\n
