Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has reignited some discussion around Bitcoin, describing it as a \u201cfundamental physics-based currency\u201d grounded in energy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking on a recent podcast with Nikhil Kamath, Musk emphasized that Bitcoin\u2019s value is tied to real-world energy expenditure, highlighting a distinction between digital assets and traditional fiat currencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnergy is the true currency,\u201d Musk said<\/a>. \u201cThis is why I said Bitcoin is based on energy. You can\u2019t legislate energy. You can\u2019t just, you know\u2026 pass a law and suddenly have a lot of energy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Tesla founder drew attention to the difficulty of producing and harnessing energy, linking it to Bitcoin\u2019s proof-of-work system, which requires substantial computational power and electricity to secure the network.<\/p>\n

He also referenced the Kardashev scale \u2014 a method<\/a> for measuring a civilization\u2019s energy consumption \u2014 as a lens for understanding societal progress. \u201cGovernments can print money, but they cannot print energy,\u201d Musk said.<\/p>\n
