Zcash has a new would-be \u201ctreasurer,\u201d but not a new ruler. <\/span>Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss are backing a newly renamed public company, Cypherpunk Technologies, which has already bought about 203,775 ZEC roughly $50M worth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The company states that it aims to hold at least 5% of Zcash\u2019s total supply. <\/span>The plan came to light this week through an <\/span>SEC filing<\/span><\/a> and company statements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It follows a $58.88M private placement led mostly by Winklevoss Capital and lands at a time when ZEC is trading through sharp and unpredictable swings.<\/span><\/p>\n

The key question inside the privacy-coin community is simple: Does holding a large share of the treasury give anyone real influence over the network? Zcash\u2019s governance model says no.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nasdaq-listed Leap Therapeutics has changed its name to Cypherpunk Technologies (CYPH) and rolled out a digital-asset treasury plan centered on ZEC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Zcash <\/span>decisions<\/span><\/a> typically proceed through formal network upgrade processes overseen by the Electric Coin Company (ECC) and the Zcash Foundation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Community groups, including grants panels and ZIP authors, also play a central role. <\/span>ZEC holders don\u2019t get on-chain voting rights. The project\u2019s regulatory filings and community documents clearly make that point.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Holding more coins doesn\u2019t give anyone direct control over upgrades or governance. <\/span>Large holders can shape sentiment or influence the amount of funding available, but they can\u2019t change protocol rules solely through coin count.<\/span><\/p>\n
