About three months after a pseudonymous crypto trader said MEXC froze roughly $3M in his account, the exchange issued a public apology and confirmed that the money was released.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an X post shared on Friday, MEXC Chief Strategy Officer Cecilia Hsueh said the company \u201cf***-ed up\u201d in the way it handled the dispute involving a trader who goes by the name White Whale.<\/span><\/p>\n

We fucked up.<\/p>\n

We apologize to @TheWhiteWhaleV2<\/a> , and his money is already released. He can claim it at any time.<\/p>\n

I messed up in communicating with him. I got emotional, and I shouldn\u2019t have.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The exchange froze about $3.1M in July, citing its internal \u201crisk control rules.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

That move pushed White Whale to launch a $2M social media campaign against MEXC in August.<\/span><\/p>\n

He later said the campaign budget grew to $2.5M after claiming the exchange asked him to fly to Malaysia to resolve the issue and have the funds returned.<\/span><\/p>\n

The White Whale replied to Hsueh\u2019s post, saying the apology \u201cdidn\u2019t specify what they were apologizing for.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He said it would have helped if MEXC had clearly addressed earlier public claims suggesting he was \u201ca criminal\u201d due to AML concerns, or a \u201cscammer\u201d based on later accusations that came even after those AML claims were disproved.<\/span><\/p>\n

How Are Users Responding to MEXC\u2019s Fund Freeze Controversy?<\/h2>\n

He said the \u201cwork is not yet done,\u201d arguing that many others are still facing similar issues. He plans to help recover those funds as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

The trader also said he will \u201cdistribute 100%\u201d of the released $3M to 20,000 supporters who backed his campaign, along with nonprofit organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many online reacted with frustration. \u201cMost regular users wouldn\u2019t stand a chance in a situation like this,\u201d <\/span>wrote<\/span><\/a> Reddit user Effective-Impact8054.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo yeah, it\u2019s great that the White Whale finally got paid, but it doesn\u2019t change the fact that MEXC froze a legit trader\u2019s funds for months and only fixed it once the internet got involved.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
