Wall Street\u2019s biggest exchange owner is betting $2Bn that prediction markets are going mainstream.<\/span><\/p>\n

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, <\/span>announced<\/span><\/a> on Tuesday that it will invest up to $2Bn in crypto prediction platform Polymarket.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The deal makes ICE a global distributor of Polymarket\u2019s event-driven data and opens the door for future tokenization projects between the two firms.<\/span><\/p>\n

The investment values Polymarket at about $8Bn before the deal and $9Bn after, according to company statements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What Steps Did Polymarket Take to Regain US Regulatory Access?<\/h2>\n

The move marks one of Wall Street\u2019s biggest steps into blockchain-based prediction markets, a space long viewed as too experimental for traditional finance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ICE said it plans to syndicate Polymarket\u2019s data to institutional clients while exploring ways to tokenize financial instruments using similar technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur investment combines ICE\u2019s market infrastructure with a forward-thinking company shaping how data and events intersect,\u201d ICE CEO Jeffrey Sprecher said in a statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Polymarket founder and CEO Shayne Coplan called the deal \u201ca major step in bringing prediction markets into the financial mainstream.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Polymarket has operated largely outside the United States since settling a case with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in 2022. The <\/span>company paid<\/span><\/a> a $1.4M fine and agreed to shut down non-compliant markets.<\/span><\/p>\n

To return to the US, Polymarket acquired QCEX, a CFTC-licensed exchange and clearinghouse for $112M in July.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In early September, CFTC staff granted QCEX a limited no-action letter related to data reporting and recordkeeping, clearing the way for a regulated relaunch of event-based contracts.<\/span><\/p>\n

ICE\u2019s entry into this space signals that prediction markets, once confined to the crypto niche, may soon be integrated into the broader financial system.<\/span><\/p>\n

What Should Investors Watch for in ICE\u2019s October 30 Earnings Call?<\/h2>\n

Reuters said ICE shares rose about 4% in pre-market trading after the news. The deal comes as prediction markets hit new highs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Data from <\/span>DeFiLlama<\/span><\/a> shows Polymarket\u2019s 30-day DEX volume around $1.16Bn, while US-regulated Kalshi saw about $1.3Bn in September.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

As of Tuesday, the \u201cDecrease 25 bps\u201d <\/span>contract implied<\/span><\/a> about 89% odds, compared with roughly 9% for \u201cNo change,\u201d on total volume above $46M. The outcome will depend on the Federal Reserve\u2019s Oct. 29 policy statement.<\/span><\/p>\n\n
